40 Days & 40 Nights

Another older movie that I had already seen. But anything with Shannyn Sossamon is worth watching a second time.

Super Troopers

Shortly after this movie came out, I heard how funny it was. When it came out on DVD, I borrowed it from a friend to see what the fuss was about.

I couldn't get through the first 15 minutes. I had to turn it off... it was so FUCKING STUPID. Maybe I just don't get American slapstick, but I just couldn't do it.

Since then, countless people have told me to give it a second chance. I insisted that I would not, and the thought of trying put strain on my already depleting brain cells.

But I did. I gave it a other go. And it still sucks. Sorry.

Shooting Livien

Huh. Who thought the doe-eyed pretty boy from Roswell can actually act.

I had never heard of this movie before I sat down to watch it, and that's a damn shame. It's a good movie. Really good in fact. And Jason Behr was really, really strong in it. Had he not been, this movie could have been really ugly, but instead was beautiful, smart and slightly disturbing.

Bridge to Terabithia

I never read the book.

Maybe if I had, I would have known that this movie was horribly fucking depressing.

Someone should have warned me.

300

Totally bloody fucking brilliant.

Mmmm... Mark Ruffalo's butt.

Ong Bak

Tony Jaa just wanted a little head, but then again, don't we all? *snicker*

This movie was oodles of cheesy Muay Thai fun!

Transformers

Sorry. Didn't like it. Walked out actually. Pretty CGI does not a good movie make. Between the rampant product placement, the poor writing and a script holier than the pope, I just couldn't take it. Not all the explosions in the world could have kept me in my seat.

The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi

Man, I wished I would have taped this!

Fucking great!

I do love me some martial arts movies. This one was really good, with the perfect mix of action, humor, and story. I just wished the version I'd seen wasn't the dubbed version. Oh well, wasn't the worst dubbing I've ever heard.

Double Review: Beauty Shop and Last Holiday

Huh. Yeah, I wouldn't think that I would have watched these movies either. But not only did I watch them - I enjoyed them. Both of them.

Don't get me wrong, both had plot flaws and were a bit hokey at times, but there are certainly worse movies out there right now, and the fact of the matter is, Queen Latifah is one of the most watchable stars in Hollyweird right now. Her performances come with absolutely no pretension, and she is so likable, when she's on the screen, it's almost impossible to look away.

And both of these movies are... sweet. And usually I wouldn't use that word as a compliment, but in today's world of "torture porn" movies like Captivity and Hostel 2, it's nice to see a movie that's, well, nice.

The one thing I can't figure out is why Halle Berry has an Oscar and Queen doesn't. I mean, seriously? The performance that won her that award wasn't that good, and even if it was, it should have been revoked after Catwoman. But mark my words... she'll get that Oscar, even if it takes of few more years of making safe movies.

Pan's Labyrinth

Brilliant. Absolutely fucking brilliant.

But do not be fooled... this is NOT a fairytale for kids.

Suspect Zero

I do love a good thriller, unfortunately most thrillers are cheesy and poorly written, or just too predictable.

This movie, however, IS one of the good ones. Aaron Eckhart and Carrie-Anne Moss are well cast as FBI agents, but [as to be expected] Sir Ben Kingsley is really the star of this movie. Sir Ben rocks a whole bunch. I'm not going to say anything else because Blogger has yet to get with the program and implement spoiler tags.

The Weatherman

Another movie that was kinda "eh". I could go either way.

* After thinking about this movie the rest of the night and the next morning, I've decided to mark this review as "pending" until I can give this movie a second go. I think if I watch it again, I'll get more out of it.

Last Days of Disco

Eh. It was entertaining, but poorly written and really predictable. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way.

Sin City

Yeah, yeah... this isn't exactly a new movie, nor is it really news that this movie fucking kicks major ass, and is one of (if not THE) best comic book movies of all time. But I finally obtained a copy for my collection (I don't know why it took me so long) and watched it again last night and again I'm in fucking awe of this movie. I can't wait for the sequel!!

Down In The Valley

Because of the type of movie this is, you pretty much know how it's going to play out right from the start, but that doesn't make the journey any less haunting. Edward Norton is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, and proves his acting chops yet again with a sympathetic portrayal of Harlan, a lost urban cowboy who is looking for love in all the wrong places. Actually, all the actors in this movie do a stellar job. Everything from the direction to the soundtrack hits all the right notes... this is a true gem of a movie and I'm honored to have seen it.

Grandma's Boy

File under: great stoner movies with nerdy video game humor.

The Break Up

Could it be? Could it possibly be? A romantic comedy with huge stars (actually way more than you'd think - the cameos are spectacular!) that is ACTUALLY FUNNY AND TRUE TO LIFE!?

Actually, it's because it's so true to life that makes it so funny. That first argument in the beginning of the movie (the "break-up" if you will) was so hilarious because it shows exactly how men and women argue, and they'll never really 'get' each other. The lemon thing nailed it. I might have to own this movie just because it is the exception, not the rule, when it comes to this genre.

Mission Impossible 3

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE Tom Cruise. With that being said, this movie wasn't half bad. In fact it wouldn't be half bad at all if it hadn't been Tom Cruise. Damn you Xenu. Damn you straight to hell.

In the Blue

Yeeeeah... too busy staring at this to notice if the movie had an actual plot. But my best guess would be no.

Red Eye

Wow... that was so NOT scary. Even with Cillian Murphy, who is naturally creepy as fuck.

Suicide Kings

I'd seen this movie before, but I'd really forgotten how good it was. A cast full of talented young actors (most of whom are sorely under used) and Christopher Walken at his Christopher Walken best. And the ending kicks all sorts of ass.

Garfield: Tale of Two Kitties

I really enjoyed this movie. Then again... I was really, really baked.
