This is one of those movies...
One of those movies everyone tells me I HAVE to see it!
Kinda like Donnie Darko.
Now, granted I did like Donnie Darko, but I didn't think it was the Holy Grail of indie as some other people thought (sorry, W.)
This movie I didn't particularly care for. I could see what they were trying, and maybe they could have pulled it off with a bigger budget, but I felt this movie completely missed the mark.
Sorry.

Steamboy
A great piece of anime... though I'm not sure about the dubbed version. The beautiful artwork should be the centerpiece, not the bad English accents.

Reefer Madness - The Musical
I remember when I first read about the Showtime remake of the cult classic - and into a musical no less - and how excited I was. Alan Cumming (who I wish could be my BFF and we'd go shoe shopping all the time, but I digress... ) acts as the story's m.c., a part which he played before in Caberet, and does it so well again. Most of the songs are just funny enough to not get annoying, though I'm not exactly rushing out to buy the soundtrack either.
One thing's for sure...
I'll never look at Veronica Mars the same way again!

Batman Begins
Thank God... there is hope for the Batman franchise after all. Some of the dialog is a little hokey, especially towards the end, but overall, a very good movie. Christian Bale is the perfect Batman and Cillian Murphy is a great bad guy. The only thing that bothered me, and this has nothing to do with the actual movie, but I hated having to watch Katie Holmes. I used to like her, but because of the recent "Tomkat" coverage, I can't stand looking at her anymore. I read recently she is giving up her movie career to raise Tom's Scientology spawn. Hey Katie, have fun with that!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Hm.
I don't know if I liked this movie or not.
I love Burton and Depp. I think the cinematography was creepy, dark and cool. Roy Deep is the bomb.
But still...
Maybe its my love for Gene Wilder and the orginal. Maybe it was the icky resemblance Depp had in character to Michael Jackson.
Let me put it this way... I thought it was an original interpretation and entertaining. However, I would not place this movie on my must own list.

Pretty Baby
This is one of those classic movies I am just now getting around to seeing.
What a fucking movie! Louis Malle is a fucking genius. This movie is beautiful haunting and more than a bit disturbing. The acting is superb. Everything about this movie glows. The details are unimaginable. If you've ever been to New Orleans, you'll understand. A truly timeless movie.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Normally, this is not the kind of movie I would rent. I don't much care for squishy 'chick flicks'. But the reviews were REALLY good.
I should have listened to my gut. Too sweet for me. Felt myself slipping into a diabetic coma. Don't get me wrong... very well written, just not my cup of tea. If you think it might be yours, you might like it.

Josie & the Pussycats
Mock me if you will, but this is one of my favorite movies and I listen to the soundtrack on a regular basis. But seriously... what's not to like? Alan Cumming and Parker Posey are both darlings in the indie film community, Rachel Leigh Cook is cute as a button, and the soundtrack was written by the chick from Letters to Cleo with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows. I love it and I'm unashamed.

Go
Love this movie. Love the soundtrack. Love Sarah Polley.
This movie is what Robert Altman would have made had he been a gen-xer.

Before Sunset... I mean Chasing Amy
Ok, this is my second copy of Before Sunset from Netflix that doesn't work in my player (or on my computer). I'm super disappointed. So, I watch an old faithful instead...
What's a Nubian?
I saw Chasing Amy 6 times in the theater. Most people hail Clerks as the View Askew great, but I think Chasing Amy is one of the most perfect movies ever made... and I'm not even a huge Ben Affleck fan. However, I must say Banky Edwards is one of the funniest characters ever written. Kevin Smith should do a whole movie on him.

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Absolutely ridiculous. Just like the book.
Loved it, don't know what people were talking about.

Igby Goes Down
I knew instantly I loved this movie. The opening scene is fucking brilliant.
This movie makes the following points:
-There ARE Culkins that can act.
-Ryan Phillipe is a sorely under used actor (see also, Crash).
-Bill Pullman, no matter how good the performance, will always creep me out.
-Susan Sarandon is one of the greatest actresses ever.
-Claire Danes needs to give her agent a raise. Can't wait to see ShopGirl
-Swearing is always funny when directed towards an elderly priest.
Where's my Igby?
Rent this movie.
